Oscar Cox
Oscar Cox is a symbol of the youth of 1902. His leadership is an unforgettable example of perseverance and one of the primary reasons for the existence of the great legend known as Fluminense.
On the historic date of 21 July 1902, the Fluminense Football Club was founded in Rio de Janeiro. The meeting was presided over by Manoel Rios along with his secretaries Oscar Cox and Américo Couto. On the proposal of João Carlos de Mello e Virgílio Leite, Oscar Alfredo Cox was nominated the first president of the club along with Manoel Rios as secretary.
Oscar Alfredo Cox was born on 20 January 1880 and died in France on 6 October 1931 at the age of 51. He was president of the F.F.C. from 21 July 1902 to 31 December 1904.
He left for London definitively in 1910. As he left he received a farewell message signed by the Fluminense members. This message was discovered among his personal possessions after his death. The message read as follows: “Cresswell. In case of my death, send to Mario Pollo, secretary of Fluminense F. C. Rio de Janeiro.” His wishes were fulfilled.
The son of George Emmanuel Cox and Minervina Dutra, Oscar had requested that his body be returned to Rio de Janeiro, where he was eventually buried in São João Baptista cemetery, Carneiro Perpétuo 2068, Block 38, on 21 October 1931.
